simply raise it up is against the rules. Characters caught doing such risk
having all their skills set to zero.

Similarily, spamming a skill/spell/command beyond the realms of realism in
order to somehow further advance your character is also against the rules.
For example, is it really realistic that your character crafted fifty swords
in one hour and sold them all to make 5,000 gold?


The above has been in the rules for a long, long time.

This rule applies to all mercantile skills. This subject ties into the issue of 'Wage'.

Wage, if you didn't know, is a representation of your character's income, whether they are a noble, a guard, a brewer or whatever. Wage is our temporary solution to not having a fleshed out player-based economy.

Think of it like this: if your character is gaining gold repeatedly through NPC interaction (e.g., selling something in a shop), they ought to instead be making that money via wage and the rppxchange command. Just because you as a player can make your character do something doesn't mean that you should, or that it is within the framework of the rules to do so.

We, of course, could fix all this by keeping shopkeepers from buying anything, but I don't think we should have to do that. I think, instead, that players can use common sense, and that they can roleplay out everything their character does when online.

So, to be very clear: if your character is gathering, there must be an emote here and there describing it. If that sounds tedious, then get another character to come along so you can chat while you work. If there aren't any other characters online -- well, them's the breaks. Work on your blog, or something, if you don't want to emote by yourself. Or go get some sleep.

The point is such down time is not an excuse for breaking the above rule.

If you have questions about this, then post them. Ignorance of the rules will not be an acceptable explaination.

I have seen this happening again lately, especially with the steal command. The fact that you cannot just type steal 10 pound <person> is not an accident, it is based on the fact that a person may have each of those 10 pounds in a different place. You need to emote (or hemote) between each steal. You also need to make sure you are near enough to steal and that you emote exiting after having stolen. I'm posting this here so that ignorance is no longer an excuse.
