It seems a pity that this needs to be reiterated over and over. But every so often we seem to have an increasing issue of IC things being taken OOCly. Or people using OOC information to set up IC events. It's in the rules already and really should not need to be said, but to paraphrase another games stance on this:

Refrain from trading and using IC information via unauthorized OOC means. Your character must act or not act based solely upon information or facts he/she was told directly, overheard, or read in-game. Any information garnered through emails, or any instant messaging service such as ICQ, AOL, MSN, Hotmail, etc is an unauthorized OOC communication and as far as the staff is concerned _never_ took place.

Please, please. Just don't. We are going to take a harsher stance with this, and if we suspect at all that anyone is in any way breaking the IC/OOC rules, we will be adjusting people's rp factor accordingly. We can and will modify the course of events in any circumstance (which may include the restoration of dead characters, loss of money/home, return of equipment) if the information by these things were accomplished had unauthorized OOC communications involved. Please be aware of this fact before taking advantage of fellow players with OOC information, not only may your gains be overturned if you cheated but the steps the staff must take to do so may cause great disruption to the game or to other players.

Some examples of things we will no longer let slide:

An RP fight is occuring in a non-public place. Suddenly every tom-dick-harry turns up to help their friend.. just 'walking by' and deciding to visit.

People finding out something OOCly then trying to set up the gaining of that information ICly.

People identifying people un-realistically based on OOC knowledge. Remember, it's a city full of a lot of people. You CANNOT identify someone based purely on just one attribute such as 'oh, they are wearing a black cloak. Jack was wearing a black cloak. It must be Jack!"

I am once again going to remind people not to give IC information over OOC channels. This includes things that may seem like common knowledge to some of us. So please, just don't do it.

Thank you, come again.

Seems like I always end up coming back to this thread, at any rate, please, remember not to spread IC information OOCly. That said, unless you know 100% that something is common knowledge (and if you don't you can ask staff of it) please don't have your character know it. The worst that happens this way is that if it is common knowledge your character gets to hear about it, and if it isn't you've done no harm or wrongs.
